David Kilgour - Left By Soft (LP)

"Left by Soft' was recorded in the Catlins, about two hours south of Dunedin, New Zealand, in an old lodge surrounded by native bush, birds, and the sea. David spent about a week down there with the Heavy Eights. Thomas Bell engineered and produced but also played bass AND cooked the band awesome meals every night. After chilling out most mornings, the band would start recording mid afternoon into the night. Apart from a couple of overblown tracks, they kept overdubs to a minimum and when mixing left most takes as is?no cleaning up via Pro Tools editing, etc. "To me, it sounds like the band on a good night, warts and all," says Kilgour. "It's probably the first real "band" LP I've made since Frozen Orange or the David Kilgour and the Heavy 8's LP from the mid '90s." - 12XU

Tronics - Love Backed By Force (LP)

ESSENTIAL DIY classic!!!
"Love Backed By Force registers as an instant classic of outsider folk-pop, a true mutant of an LP that never sounds the same way twice. It may take a few listens for its pull to take effect, but once you settle into its orbit, it?ll be difficult to remove yourself. Music will never sound the same again, and in the world of Love Backed By Force, it doesn?t even sound the same from song to song on the same album. Layer upon layer of close-talking lyrics are buffeted by mind-clogging guitar (even the acoustic tracks create immense blocks of light-absorbing interference in your brain), synthesizer abuse, and rudimentary drumming, made by a man who regularly discussed seeing ghosts to general disbelief." - Whats Your Rupture?

Lakes - Crossed With Leaves (7")

"We are very proud to announce that the new single from Melbourne’s Lakes is ready and available for purchase. For the uninitiated, Lakes is the solo outlet for Sean Bailey’s not so cheery take on the world. Sean has been a constant in the Melbourne musical landscape for quite a while. In addition to running the Inverted Crux label he has played is such diverse group settings including, but not limited to, Paeces, Wasted Truth, Tax, and The (Australian) Vivian Girls.
Lakes is Sean’s bleak punk, dark folk creature. There is no mistaking the Lakes signature sound, but those who have been following Lakes' development over the course of 12 releases can attest that Sean has methodically built on to the gothic Lakes skeleton heard on the earliest releases to where we last heard from him on last year’s Winter’s Blade LP where the Lakes monster was given quite a bit of muscle in large part to a tweak in the recording process. This single picks up where Winter’s Blade left off with perhaps with an extra level of heavy and gloom applied to the structure." - Quemada

Mole House - Hey Come My Way (7")

"Can't be more excited to bring you debut from Mole House. Get to know em now. The band is made up of Carla dal Forno backed by a couple peeps from Mad Nanna and White Woods (Night People, Bellplay) and sounds like an even mixing of those two bands. A bit more jangle and hook than your typical date with Mad Nanna, but a bit sloppier than a make-out session with White Woods. Prime bummer pop through and through." - Quemada

Mad Nanna - I Hit A Wall (7")

"We have here the new 7inch single from Mad Nanna. Mad Nanna have quietly built up an impressive discography in a relatively short span with releases on Goaty, Eggy, Wormwood Grasshopper, and their own amazing Albert’s Basement. The A side is an anthem for the ages (by Nanna standards). It lurches and stumbles, makes strides, waltzes and wobbles but manages to stay in a relatively straight line. The B side charges headlong through the muck and rides an early 90s Port Chalmers groove. Artwork is by one Antony Riddell, a Melbourne fixture, artist, author, member of the Weave Movement Theatre and one of the the mad geniuses responsible for the under-appreciated Volvox." - Quemada

Electric Blood - Single 2011 (7")

"Electric Blood was Robert Scott’s (The Clean and The Bats) first band. Formed in Dunedin, New Zealand in 1977, the group revolved around Mr. Scott and his brother Andrew. According to Robert, Electric Blood was a couple of musicians (Robert and Andrew) “playing along with a few guys who were living up the road; they were sort of non-musicians. It was a band that really evolved around me learning how to write songs and trying to get these other guys to join in and make a band of some kind.”

Electric Blood played sporadically throughout most of the ‘80s. Robert would release the band’s material through his Every Secret Thing cassette label; the albums were typically recorded over the course of a day at a Dunedin rehearsal space. (In 1994 the American label Beehive Rebellion reissued Electric Blood’s 1984 cassette Electric Easter on CD. Single 2011 is the first Electric Blood vinyl release.) “Pennsylvania” first appeared on the 1982 cassette Ohio; “Window Sill”, “Match”, and “Bumble Bee” appeared on Electric Easter. Although the band started from humble beginnings, Electric Blood would eventually incorporate multi-instrumentalist Alastair Galbraith on some of their later recordings, and one Electric Blood track (“Earwig”) eventually turned up on an early Bats EP." - Spacecase
